Fox School currently serves a diverse population of more than 400 students in pre-kindergarten through sixth grades. Anne Fox has received the 2010 Academic Excellent Award from the Illinois Board of Education which recognizes sustained excellent in elementary schools where 90 % of students demonstrate academic proficiency in reading and mathematics and have made adequately yearly progress for at least two years.
Since 2006, Anne Fox School has been a member of the No Excuses University network and has gained national recognition for our work in promoting college readiness at the elementary school level. Fox School is also a proud member of the Kids at Hope in Hanover Park Community Coalition and actively promotes the Kids at Hope belief system emphasizing that ALL children are capable of success – NO EXCEPTIONS!
To achieve this, Anne Fox provides core curriculum to all students through a balanced literacy program focused on reading, writing, listening and speaking. The Everyday Mathematics program builds on mathematical concepts and problem solving. The opportunity for advanced mathematics is offered in grades 5 and 6 through Pre-transitions and/or Transitions programs. Additional support for literacy is provided through a Parallel Block structure that ensures students receive 40 minutes of daily targeted instruction to accelerate learning.
A full continuum of special services is available to students in District 54. Each of the elementary schools provides gifted resource services and eligible children can also attend the magnet school.
Fox School holds high academic and behavioral expectations, recognizing a Student of the Month from each classroom. The “Treasure Chest” positive reinforcement program provides additional recognition to students demonstrating exemplary behavior in the school setting. Support programs are also used to teach children the essential social skills they need to interact appropriately with adults and peers.
Students have the opportunity to participate in many activities such as Fox Readers, After School Spanish Literacy, Variety Show, Drama Club, Library Club, Battle of the Books, Yearbook, Photography Club, and instrumental music for 5th and 6th grades.
Our school was named for Anne W. Fox, a former first-grade teacher at Blackhawk School in District 54. Both colleagues and administrators recognized her as a “master teacher” of the district.
