Fox School’s Winning 3rd-4th Grade Battle of the Books Team

Both of Fox School’s Battle of the Books teams won their play-off Battles at Campanelli School on April 20th and advanced to the District Championship, which was held in the District Board room on Monday, April 30th.

Our 5th & 6th Grade team made a tremendous effort in a hard-fought battle with five other schools.  Just a few points separated each of the top three teams, with final scores averaging above 95% correct.  At the end of the Battle, Fox placed third.  Our congratulations go to the team from Hale School, who placed second, and to Muir Literacy Academy’s team, who are the reigning District Champions.

The 3rd & 4th Grade competition proved to be very exciting, with Fox and Hale ending regular competition tied for first place!  We then entered the tie-breaker round, which again ended in a tied score–a new outcome in Battle of the Books competition.  Since there was only one trophy, Hale’s principal, Brian Lawson, flipped a coin to see who would take home the trophy that night and who would receive a second trophy at a later date.  Hale won the coin toss, but Fox will be getting its own  impressive trophy very soon.

The BOB sponsors, Mrs. Jesuit, Mrs. Hellstrom, and Mrs. Mackh, would like to give our sincere congratulations to all of our Battle of the Books team members, and a special round of applause to our competition team.  We are SO PROUD OF YOU!!!

Letter from the Principal

Posted Thursday, March 1st, 2012 by Mrs. Peacock

Our annual ISAT tests for grades 3-6 are just around the corner.  Students in grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 will be taking the state required achievement tests from March 5th through March 16th.  The focus of the first days of testing will be on reading while the final days of testing will be on math.  Students in 4th grade will also be taking tests in science.  This is the assessment that the state of Illinois uses to assess the progress of your child and the effectiveness of our instruction.  Samples of the ISAT test are provided by the state and can be found via the following website: http://www.isbe.net/assessment/htmls/sample_books.htm.  If you have questions or would like additional information about the test, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or the main office.

As a school, we will review the results of these tests to assist us in making instructional decisions that best meet your child’s needs.  The staff here is committed to excellence, creating systems to support all students, and to ensure that each student can learn and succeed.

As parents, we are asking that you do the following to ensure our students highest achievement and success:

  • Make sure your child arrives on time to school each morning in order to be mentally prepared for the tests.
  • Ensure that your child gets a reasonable amount of sleep in the days leading up to and during the ISAT test dates.
  • Provide your child a nutritious breakfast and plenty of fluids before they come to school.  Brain research supports the fact that students do better when they have eaten and are fully hydrated.

Most importantly encourage your child to “Show What You Know”.
Let your child know that you have confidence in his/her ability to do his/her best.  I encourage you to complete the “Show What you Know” message page in the Fox Tales for your child.  You can post it on the fridge, on the front door, in their bedroom or have them bring it to school.  Your belief that they can achieve anything when they work hard is essential in motivating students to perform their best.

Thank you for your support in helping the students of Anne Fox continue the tradition of academic success for all students – NO EXEPTIONS!

Academic Achievement Award

Posted Thursday, February 9th, 2012 by Mrs. Peacock

Anne Fox was recognized for receiving the Academic Achievement Award from the Illinois State Board of Education.  The Illinois Honor Roll celebrates the accomplishments of Illinois public schools that are providing high quality education for all their students.  To receive this award, a school must meet the following criteria:

  • Made Adequate Yearly Progress in 2010 and 2011 as required by the No Child Left Behind Act.
  • 90 percent of students must have met or exceeded state standards in both reading and mathematics for the three most recent school years.

Illinois State Superintendent, Chris Koch, presented the award to our school.  Our Student Council President and Vice President joined Mrs. Beaulieu, Mrs. Brantner and buidling administration to accept this award on behalf of our school.

This is the second year Anne Fox has received this award. Twelve other District 54 schools were recognized as well.  On behalf of Schaumburg School District 54 and the entire Anne Fox community, thank you to our students, staff and families for supporting our students.  It is through commitment and hard work that we receive these acknowledgements.
